I recently joined a group called the “American Bodypaint League: Denver Chapter.” It is a group of artists (painters, models, and photographers) who collaborate in bodypaint events every couple of months. This was the first event I attended and was blown away by the talent of everyone! I was the “progression shooter’ for the event and my job was to capture the whole process. I started shooting once the base coat of paint was on and didn’t stop until they were complete. Then it was the ‘studio photographers’ turn.
The theme for this event was “Lingerie with a Twist.” The painters had a blank slate to come up with ideas in the category. I thought going into the event that it would be mainly corsets and garters that would be painted and boy was I wrong! The creativity and detail that the painters have is something that I can’t even comprehend. Each of them had their own idea and made every piece unique. Absolutely amazing work!
In my opinion the models had the hardest job out of everyone. We were working at Creative Culture Studios for the day who donated their space for the event. It was 95 degrees that day and it felt like it was about that hot inside as well! While the photographers and painters could walk around and stand by a fan the models had to stay in place for the better part of 6 straight hours! They had to stand in unique poses so the painters could do their job. The models where great sports and did a great job.
The images below are what I took as the ‘progression shooter.’ Make sure to go all the way to the bottom to see the finished paintings and see the other photographers photos.
Thank you to the photographers who captured the final products and to all the models and painters for this astoundingly beautiful work. It was a pleasure to work with all of you talented individuals and can’t wait until the next time!
